Team finds two bodies from ship accident

A search and rescue team has found two passengers who went missing when the KM Sonde Jaya sunk in waters off Kuala Sador in the Meranti Islands Regency of Riau on Monday.

Tebingtinggi Sector Police chief AKP Indra Setiawan said on Wednesday that the police had discovered a Selatpanjang resident, Wahyu Hidayat, yesterday and a Beting resident, Paheran, this afternoon.

“We found them not far from where the ship sank. Some parts of their bodies were missing and we could identify them only by the clothes they were wearing,” Indra said.

He added that the team had now identified six of the dozens of people who went missing in the crash, including: Jemu, Mudi, Indra Kesuma and Heru.

“We have named driver Sugiran and mechanic Suhardi as suspects in the case and charged them under Article 359 and 360 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on Negligence Leading to Death,” he said.

Selatpanjang Indonesian Navy Commandant First Let. Richard said that the team was still looking for the missing passengers despite haze hampering their searching.
