Team finds two bodies from ship accident

A search and rescue team has found two passengers who went missing when the KM Sonde Jaya sunk in waters off Kuala Sador in the Meranti Islands Regency of Riau on Monday.

Tebingtinggi Sector Police chief AKP Indra Setiawan said on Wednesday that the police had discovered a Selatpanjang resident, Wahyu Hidayat, yesterday and a Beting resident, Paheran, this afternoon.

“We found them not far from where the ship sank. Some parts of their bodies were missing and we could identify them only by the clothes they were wearing,” Indra said.

He added that the team had now identified six of the dozens of people who went missing in the crash, including: Jemu, Mudi, Indra Kesuma and Heru.

“We have named driver Sugiran and mechanic Suhardi as suspects in the case and charged them under Article 359 and 360 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on Negligence Leading to Death,” he said.

Selatpanjang Indonesian Navy Commandant First Let. Richard said that the team was still looking for the missing passengers despite haze hampering their searching.

Commuter trains collide in Bogor, many feared injured

Saving lives: Policemen rescue a locomotive engineer from a Pakuan Express train. The train smashed into an economic train in Bogor on Tuesday, killing one person and injuring dozens of others

A Pakuan Express Business Class carriage smashed into the rear of an Economy Class electric train in Bogor, a city south of Jakarta, at 10 a.m. this morning.

No official statement regarding injuries or casualties has been released yet. However, a passenger of the business class train, Danang, informed Sonora radio that an evacuation of the electric train passengers was underway.

“The rear car is the most severely damaged part of the train. There are many passengers squeezed between the two trains,” Danang reported. He added that he was seated in the middle car and sustained minor injuries due to the crash.

The Pakuan Express train was speeding when it hit the electric train, as it departed from a station near Goodyear tire plant. Both commuter trains were bound for Jakarta.
